Mount Sinai psychiatry prof. sells Turtle Bay condo

Dr. Amir Garakani sold a one-bedroom, one-bath condo at 100 United Nations Plz. in Turtle Bay to Billie and Philip Bauman for $670,000 on April 3.

Dr. Garakani paid $810,000 for the 785-square-foot Unit #18D in Sept. 2007. The 49-story condominium building, built in 1984, has 244 units.

Dr. Garakani is an assistant clinical professor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, where he teaches psychiatry. He is also an attending physician at Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Conn. Additionally, Dr. Garakani serves as an independent psychiatric examiner for the appellate division panel of the New York State Supreme Court.

He earned a B.A. in Classics from Cornell University and an M.D. from the SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. Board certified in psychiatry and neurology, he completed his residency at the Mount Sinai Medical Center and his postdoctoral research fellowship at the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He also studied forensic psychiatry at New York University Medical Center.

There were 298 sales in Midtown East/Turtle Bay in 2008, with a median price of $270,000.
